Thinking Of Veneers?

Getting veneers is a serious dental procedure. Therefore, you should see a dentist who has experience and a good style. Most cosmetic dentists have before and after photos of patients. Check them out before making your decision. Remember that veneers are one of a few options to correct your smile. Veneers are a permanent solution for people who do not want to keep going back to the dentist to fix crooked teeth, yellow teeth or chipped teeth.

Your dentist will work with you to create a smile that fits your face. First, a good dentist will discuss with you what you want. Then the dentist will take into account your personality, the way you talk, your expressions, your smile and then will create your veneers to fit. The best veneers are ones that are subtle. People will know you had something done but cannot tell what.

Also, you may not need a full mouth of veneers. It depends on your needs and budget. Be honest with your dentist. If you want to get lip injections or other plastic surgery, let your dentist know, because that may change the way your smile looks.

The color of your veneers is important as well. Most people want really white teeth. However, real teeth are not white white. They can either be yellow-white or gray-white depending. So if you want natural looking teeth, the dentist needs to match the color to your skin tone. Your dentist can show you the color on the temporary veneers.

Your dentist will make temporary veneers after discussing your wants and needs. These are the blueprints for your actual veneers. It helps the dentist to create your new permanent teeth. Once you determine your veneer plan, molds, X-rays and photos are taken. Then you need to come back for prep, which includes shaving down your enamel. You can get either partial or full veneers. After prepping the teeth, your dentist will put in your temporary veneers. For a week, this will be your trial smile. After a week, you and your dentist will discuss any changes that you want made. Then the permanent ones will be created.

When it is time for the procedure, you will be administered local anesthesia. Depending on how many veneers you are getting, is the amount of time you can be in the dental chair.  Bonding cement is used to affix the porcelain to your real tooth. After the cement is on, it is cured with a tiny UV light to secure everything in place. Be aware that about 50% of patients will experience bonding sensitivity. If you are feeling pain, take Ibuprofen. Your gums also could experience sensitivity and pain while healing. Again, if you experience this, take Ibuprofen.

Since veneers are an expensive procedure, take care of them so they will last for the 15 to 20 years before you need to replace them. Remember to brush and floss regularly. You will need to replace veneers but with proper care and regular dental visits, they can last up to 15 to 20 years. When you replace veneers, the dentist will gently and carefully drill off the old veneer and start the whole process over again.
